Lois Lilley Obituary

LILLEY, Lois Bootsie Lilley (Lois E. DeStefano) of James Island passed away Monday, November 20, 2006, at Hospice Center of Charleston after a long illness. She was born October 16, 1933, daughter of Anthony J DeStefano and Lois Padget DeStefano. She is survived by a brother, A.J. DeStefano, Jr., of Charleston, SC; a sister, Marie D. McKnight of Kingstree, SC. She is also survived by husband C.M. Lilley of Charleston, SC, and five children: Kenny A. Lilley, Butch Lilley of Charlotte, NC, Linda L. Price, Jimmy Johnson, Jr., and Juli J. Smith; daughters-in-law Suzi Lilley of Charlotte, NC, Susan Johnson, and son-in-law Paul Smith of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Keri Lilley, Alan Price of Charleston, SC, Erin Pace of Charlotte, NC, Jason Price, Meghan Smith of Charleston, SC, Ethan Lilley of Charlotte, NC, Laura and Michael Johnson of Charleston, SC. She also has several nieces and nephews. Bootsie was a former employee of Southern Bell Telephone Company and the Medical University of South Carolina. She was also a writer for the Post and Courier, Bowling Beat in the 1970's. Bootsie was very active in the lives of her family. She was giving, dedicated and a proud, loving mother to her children, grandchildren, husband, family and friends. Besides her own children, she also cared for children from the Catholic Orphanage on the weekends as well as the neighborhood kids! She was a very dedicated parent at Blessed Sacrament School and Bishop England High School, from which she graduated. Bootsie was a great friend to all who knew her. Her family was her life , but she also enjoyed the beach, writing, animals, and flowers. She was a very selfless person and never asked for anything in return. Though she struggled with life daily and being sick many times, she was a fighter until the end. She will always be missed by her family and friends, but she is now at peace with our Lord and is now a true guardian angel. Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary and Vigil Service to be held 5:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2006 at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, located at 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston. Celebration of Life will follow until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center in Mount Pleasant, SC. So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Thanks Linda for calling me. I will call you soon. You know that your mother was like a 2nd mother to me. She was my confidant. In fact, when Bill proprosed to me by a letter, Bootsie was the first one I told. She was so happy for me. I often remember the fun times we had in the house on Avondale Avenue and the many times I babysat you all. I tried for years to find Bootsie after I left Charleston. The closest I came was finding Linda and spending some time with you. When I went to Bootsie's house after my visit with you, she was not there. It is so sad that my mother's death let me find Bootsie again. I thank you all for coming to mother's viewing and renewing our friendship. Maybe those two have found each other in Heaven.
Keep in touch and I will try to visit when I am in Charleston.
My love to all of you.

I was sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I know she had suffered for quite some time. Although I did not know her, I remember the stories you told of the laughter, fun and love you shared. My thoughts are with you and your family.

My father and I bowled with Bootsie many, many years ago. Surely if there is a bowling alley in heaven, they are there.

I will always remember her heartwarming smile.

My deepest sympathies in your loss.

It brings me joy to know in my heart Aunt Bootsie is finally at Peace+ I miss her and I love her very much. God has a funny way of providing us with special memories! As long as I live, I will have in my mind a picture of Aunt Bootsie sitting up in the hospital bed eating one Lemon Filled Krispy Kreme Donut after another with a smile on her face. A very special, Beautiful Lady with a Huge Heart enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Now, Aunt Bootsie, enjoy the splendor of Heaven, you earned it!
