Lois Holwerda Obituary

Lois (Wiersma) Holwerda, age 90, Child of God and of Grace, entered her heavenly home, where she longed to be, on Friday, March 13, 2020 while surrounded by her family. We are comforted by knowing her life did not end when she took her last breath, it began with Jesus welcoming her into his arms. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Alice Wiersma; her siblings, Chuck Wiersma, Jean Suwyn, Nancy Woolen; husband of 50 years, Bill; son-in-law, Dale Daverman; brothers-in-law, Jim Dice, Dan Holwerda. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren whom she loved deeply and who deeply loved her: children, Judy Daverman, Doug Holwerda, Jim (Short) Holwerda, BJ (Teri) Holwerda; grandchildren, Jeff (Beth Rossi) Daverman, Lisa (Rob) Beneson, Kevin (Young Lee) Daverman, Erin (Nick) Be, Jamie (Phillip) Frederiksen, Lia (Evan) Arendsen, Josh (Jenna) Holwerda, Andrea (Kyle) Hoogewind, Olivia (Jeremiah) DeWeerd. She adored her 15 great grandchildren who called her "Grandma Great", Cheyla, Maya, Levi, Ethan, Ella, Kyian, Chloe, Simon, Lucas, James, Penelope, William, Emma, Sophie and Liam. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walt (Carol) Sterkenburg, Mary Dice and Laurie Holwerda. Hers was a life well-lived, using her gifts and calling to impact so many people with her positive, warm, kind manner and always greeted others with a friendly smile. She was considerate, encouraging, and believed in the value of every person, reflecting Jesus' love. She had a willing servant's heart and above all, wanted others to have an intimate relationship with Jesus, her Savior. We grieve, but not as those who have no hope. She will be greatly missed Visitation times were published in the Grand Rapids Press and MLive on Sunday, March 15. Unfortunately, ALL VISITATION TIMES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. Lois' family has decided to try to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by cancelling the visitation sessions and holding a memorial service later this summer. We invite you to leave a message of condolence on her obituary tribute wall at www.zaagman.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to The Potter's House Christian School or Rehoboth Christian School.

I've known no finer lady or better testimony of Christ's love than Mrs. Holwerda. She exuded joy and love with her every word and was easy to love in return. It has been a blessing to know and serve her for many years. Heaven's gain is definitely our loss. May God continue to bless her family as He blessed your mom all these years. Ron/Karen Sparks

We had so many great years sitting at football games together, with pizza afterward at the Holwerdas. The memories of a great friendship and Lois' quick wit and laughter will always be a priceless memory!
