Lois Hessberg Obituary

Lois B. Hessberg SEABROOK ISLAND, SC - Lois B. Hessberg passed away March 9, 2024, after several years of bravely battling health problems. Born March 13, 1952, in Washington, DC, she is survived by her dearest friend and lifelong companion, beloved husband, Lee R. Hessberg, of Seabrook Island, SC; sons, Jason Hessberg (Andrea) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Justin Hessberg (Katie) of Slingerlands, NY; and grandchildren, Natalie and Jimmy Hessberg of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Casey Hessberg of Slingerlands, NY. While her brother, Robert Barrett, died shortly before her, she is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Buckhannan, WV, and multiple cousins. Lois was raised in suburban Washington and graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in Psychology prior to moving to Albany, NY, where she spent over four decades. Her employment spanned from social work at Memorial Hospital in Albany to new home construction sales for Rosen-Michaels Builders, culminating in her career as a registered representative for Merrill Lynch and Kidder Peabody before fulfilling her most challenging, but also most rewarding, career as wife and mother. In her retirement, she found volunteerism to be the key to sanity, and gave her time to the PTA, Albany Volunteer Center, Red Cross of Albany, Junior League of Albany, Delmar Presbyterian Church, and Albany Presbytery. Lee and Lois relocated to Seabrook Island in 2018 to enjoy the sun, beach, and lack of snow, but left a large part of their hearts in Albany. Services will be at the convenience of family. A memorial service is being planned for later this year in Albany. Although she supported many, Lois favorite charities were those involved in feeding the hungry and disaster relief, but a donation to the charity of your choice in her memory would be welcome.
