Lisa Cooper Obituary

Lisa Maria Cooper MT. PLEASANT - Lisa Maria Cooper, 51, of Mount Pleasant, went to her eternal rest on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Lisa was born Dec. 9, 1971 in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of Jose; Marichal and Donna Hieber Marichal. Lisa was a beloved wife to her husband of 21 years, Lewis, and mother of four children: Kristen, Daniel, Josiah, and Lydia. She is also survived by her parents, Jose; and Donna Marichal as well as her brothers, David (Linda) Marichal and Daniel (Angela) Marichal, and sister, Ana Maria Marichal (Aaron Brandt). She was preceded in death by her sister, Ana Margarita Marichal. Lisa graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. She then received a Master of Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She enjoyed working in acute care at Orlando Regional Medical Center. In Orlando, she met her future husband, Lewis, while attending church. After their wedding, she moved with Lewis to Charleston, South Carolina. While Lisa loved the practice of physical therapy, her greatest joy was in raising her four children. She homeschooled all of them through at least elementary school, and she loved to see them flourish academically. She was a fierce competitor, playing basketball in high school and her first two years of college; later she would enjoy playing tennis and racquetball. The beach was one of her favorite places, and she could always be found walking the shore looking for pretty shells or interesting creatures. She loved trips to visit family in Florida and Puerto Rico; her first stop was to find a good medianoche or quesitos. Lisa was a loyal friend, who always thought of others ahead of herself. Above all else, she was a woman who wanted her life to bring glory and honor to her Lord, and she never tired of thanking God for His grace and goodness in all things. A funeral service, with dessert reception to follow, will be held at East Cooper Baptist Church, 361 Egypt Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 4:00 pm. Her graveside service will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414 on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lowcountry Orphan Relief and Lowcountry Pregnancy Center in Charleston, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
