To the Linda Hazel family,

It is so hard to believe that Linda is gone. She has touched and influenced so many lives. . . "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you," So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:5-7

Sincerely,

Linda, whom I know simply as Gaile, from elementary school through high school and beyond has represented the embodiment of beauty, brains and benevolence. Very happy to have known her; Sure, that all have been blessed in having her these many years. Positive she passed the essence of her being on to her children, and confident the rest of us smile in memory of her.

Every once in a while some of us are lucky enough to develope life-long friendships. I wasn't one of the lucky ones. I was blessed. Blessed to have as my life-long friend Linda Gaile Hazel. We met in the fall of 1978 on the campus of Newberry College, our Alma Mater. We roomed together, were in band together, and sang on the gospel choir together. Gaile used to say it was OK that the choir didn't have many male voices "because Hamberg sings bass you know." She had a sense of humor that was unexpected and an infecticious laugh that accompanied a smile that would light up the dimmest of spaces.

Throughout the years we always kept in touch; never being able to synchronize a meeting even when we were in the same city or town. But she always managed to deliver the right words of comfort and joy when I needed them most via card, phone call or email. I'll miss those correspondences that always seemed to arrive at the right moment to brighten my days and light up my life.

To Ricky, Lonnie, Vera, Ms. Pat and all of the Heyward/Hazel family, although I am unable to be with you physically my thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of berevement. Take comfort in the knowledge that Gaile is walking through those pearly gates to be with her daddy and our heavenly Father. And, Lawrence, she's bringing you your Sunday paper when she comes in.

Gaile, you're singing in God's choir now. Save me a space in the bass section. I love you and miss you. You'll forever be in my heart, my life-long friend.

Loving you all,

Hamberg
