Lillie Clark Obituary

Lillie Mae Clark BONNEAU - Lillie Mae White Clark, 95, of Bonneau, SC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 9, 2011. "Miss Lillie" or "Mom", as she was known to most, was born May 11, 1916, the youngest, and sadly the last, of eleven children born to the late Daniel Oscar White and Caroline Elizabeth Mills White. She was raised, attended school, worked, and lived in and around Berkeley County, SC, until she relocated to Alexandria, VA, in the early 1950's. There she continued her education through night school and special educational opportunities striving always with a tireless effort towards a never-ending goal of providing a better life for herself and her family. She had a very successful career with the Virginia Electric Power Company in Alexandria, VA, retiring in 1980 after 28 years of service. She returned to Bonneau, SC, in 1983, where she continued to live until her death. She was preceded in death by husbands, Jessie W. Rhodes, Sr., and Sam Clark, her faithful and beloved companion, E. Harry Pullman, a son, Edward Leon Rhodes, Sr., a daughter, Doris E. Johnson, a grandson, Billy Ray Hunter, and a great-great granddaughter, Jalyssa B. Deweese. She is survived by, two sons, L.A. "Lee" Rhodes and his wife, Dolly, of Bonneau and Jesse W. "Jay" Rhodes and his wife, Hannah, of Moncks Corner; a daughter, Wilma Jean Hammond and her husband, Gardner, of Kingsport, TN; fourteen grandchildren, Bobby, Glen, Stephanie, Julie, Leigh Ann, Kathy, Beth, Regina, Ashley, Trae, Shaun, Heather, Barbara, and Eddie; twenty-seven great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Although faced with declining health the last few years of her life, she fought each battle with courage and dignity. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and best friend. Her Christian faith and beliefs in the goodness within each of us, enabled her to live life to the fullest, doing so with great vitality and a contagious, positive energy that will be missed by all who loved her. She is now at peace, and for that, we give thanks to God for His gift of eternal life. Her funeral will be 2:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2011, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until 1:30 PM on TUESDAY. A special thanks to everyone at Odyssey Hospice, especially, Armie, Tammy, and Sarah, for the tender love and care given to "Mom" and also to the family.
