Lewis Hayne Shuler VI MT. PLEASANT - Lewis Hayne Shuler VI, 94, husband of Betty Shuler, passed away peacefully at Franke at Seaside on Friday, March 6, 2015. Lew was born on May 31, 1920 to Lewis Hayne and Rosa Dantzler Shuler in Bowman, SC. Lew moved with his family to New Orleans and Marshall, TX during his youth as his father studied for the ministry. They returned to SC and he attended Bowman High School and graduated from Orangeburg High School. He began working for Dixie Radio Company in Columbia in 1939. As WWII broke out he applied for and was accepted to flight school and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier/navigator. He arrived in the European theatre on December 25, 1942 at Casa Blanca, Morocco. He flew 65 combat missions in a B26 Marauder before returning as a 1st Lieutenant in 1945. He received the Air Medal with 13 clusters. After the war, he returned to Dixie Radio, where he continued his career until retiring in 1981 as Vice President and General Sales Manager. While managing the Dixie store in Charlotte, NC he met and married Betty Katherine Stine. They were married for 64 years. They moved to Columbia in 1958 where they lived and raised their daughters for 44 years. They were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served in numerous leadership roles. They enjoyed traveling during retirement while living at Summit Place and then moved to a cottage at Franke at Seaside in Mt. Pleasant in 2002. They joined All Saints Lutheran Church and attended the chapel at Franke. Lew served in several professional organizations. He was president of Sales Marketing Executives (SME), state and national president of National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA) and president of the National Industry Show Corp. He was also a member of Golden Key Kiwanis and a 32 degree Mason. Lew enjoyed time with friends playing tennis, sailing on Lake Murray and, in later years, pursued golf at Wildwood Country Club in Columbia. Lew is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Roxanna Shuler Tinsley of Florence, Elizabeth Shuler Fary (Leo) of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Sam Tinsley (Alissa) of Florence, Marshall Tinsley of Columbia, Asa Fary and Katie Fary of Mt. Pleasant. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Mary Elizabeth and Les Stork and sister and brother-in-law, Marshall and Bebe Stine. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Franke at Seaside in Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church, 2107 N.
