Lewis Chassereau Obituary

Lewis Gordon Chassereau MONCKS CORNER - Lewis Gordon Chassereau, 93, a Charleston native and Korean War veteran, passed peacefully in his home in Moncks Corner, SC, on Friday, May 16th, 2025, with his wife, Jane Police-Chassereau, at his side. Lewis loved the Lord and his Savior Jesus Christ and finally saw his face on Friday evening. He is singing to the Lord in person now and reunited with family and friends and looking forward to seeing more one day for eternity. His funeral service will be held Thursday, May 22, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel on Greenridge Rd., at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends for viewing and visitation at 12pm at the Northwoods Chapel. Family visitation is at 11am. Lewis was born at home in 1931 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late James H. Chassereau, Sr. and the late Alma Zorn Chassereau. He is survived by his wife, Jane; by 2 daughters, (Judy B. Chassereau of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jamene' Police of Moncks Corner, SC); by 3 grandchildren, (Brenna, Veronica, and Ronnie); and by 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Faye Chassereau; son, Derek S. Fisher; and all of his siblings, (Melvin, Clyde, Vivian, Harold, and James (aka, Buddy)). In past years, he had a gas station, worked an ambulance service, volunteered with the fire department, and served as a police deputy. He was always interested in helping people. He served in the National Guard, Army, and Air Force traveling across the world. He then worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a machinist. He has been lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, and he was very active in his churches throughout life including as a deacon. He loved children, music, singing, joking, driving around in his truck, and talking with anyone...and singing...and singing... He also dearly loved his country. Nurses and doctors called him the "Candyman" as he always had some for them. In lieu of flowers, Lewis and the family would appreciate your support of things that were dear to him, particularly with regard to Christian missions, American soldiers, and civil servants. Tunnel2Towers, t2t.org is considered a solid organization using 95% of donations as advertised. Baptist International Missions, https://www.bimi.org/ , is another. I met Mr Chassereau back in the late 80s/ early 90s when I delivered his mail in Harborgate Shores. One of the nicest people I ever met. He introduced himself as the Mayor of Island View Dr. and that name certainly fit. He was a helpful friend to all his neighbors and always had a kind or encouraging word for his new mailman. Sincere condolences to the family.
