Lesley Brandli Obituary

Lesley Lynne Brandli MT. PLEASANT - Lesley Lynne Brandli left this world to be with Our Lord Jesus on Monday June 23, 2014, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She passed comfortably at home. She was 48. Lesley was born on December 3, 1965, in Allentown, PA, the daughter of Dunn and Barbara Zimmerman. Following the unexpected death of her father when she was just five, she moved with her family to California, where she was raised. In school, she enjoyed swimming and student government. She pursued a career in nursing and received her nursing degree from California State University, Long Beach, and worked as a registered nurse in California before marrying David Brandli in 1990. The two moved to Philadelphia where she earned her Master's Degree in Oncology Nursing in 1992 at the University of Pennsylvania, where her mother had studied previously. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist she had many satisfying roles in Oncology Nursing, including clinical instructor, researcher, speaker, and clinician. She and David have two wonderful children and ultimately made their home in Mount Pleasant. Lesley enjoyed an active life full of great friends and family. She loved water sports and other outdoor activities. She was an active member of East Cooper Baptist Church and had a fervent faith which she shared with others. She enjoyed traveling, watching her daughters participate in activities and Clemson football. She is remembered by her husband of 23 years, Dr. David W. Brandli; daughters, Meagan E. Brandli and Madison J. Brandli; her mother and father, Ray and Barbara Brock; mother and father-in-law, Albert and Linda Brandli; sister, Raye Lynne Gerber (Steve Gerber); brothers, Todd A. Brock (Stacey Brock) and Stephen D. Brock; brother-in-law, Stephen E. Brandli (Bobbie Jo); and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Dunn Zimmerman of Harrisburg, PA. two girls
in blue skirts
and white sweaters
sit with legs
facing each other
on a 1978 school bus
full-tilt rioting with
an entire
team of perm-haired, cranked-up
popular, beautiful boys.

when the barrels of beer went suddenly silent,
these two sang together.

heads swaying under
freshly feathered bangs.

time is such a stupid construct
when we want to understand why everything
always dies
and everything always
ends.

?The blush of youth goes missing too early
from a face too young.

but I still can recall that day....
and sing from a long way off
through many years
and echo...

“when times go bad
when times go rough....
won't you lay me down in the tall grass…”

Although I have not seen Lesley in over 20 years, I carry that Middle School memory with me.
May your family have peace, and may you find whatever comes after. And may it be a beautiful new adventure.

David and girls,
Jeff and I are so very sorry for your loss. Lesley was the type of person that you could not see for a long time and then pick back up where you left the previous time. She left a huge footprint on so many people's hearts. Praying that your precious hearts will be comforted and bound up by Christ's peace and love and rest in the fact that, because Jesus paid the prices for all our sins, you will be reunited some day. Much love and prayer for you!

Lesley has a special place in my heart. We met in middle school where we exchanged notes using the Tolkien elfen language we decoded. We once tried making homemade beauty products with wheat germ, honey, oatmeal, and beer (which we did not drink). We washed our hair with it, needless to say we had chunks stuck in our hair for days. Having the same birthday, she opened up her self to me and made me feel accepted during those hard teen years. She had a beautiful and huge spirit which was contagious. Her parents opened up their home to us friends which we appreciate so much. To her family, I'm sorry you lost her presence on earth; I know loss and it is a numbing and painful experience. We will continue thinking of you during your time of mourning.
