Leroy Benton Obituary

Leroy Wendell Benton RAVENEL, SC - Leroy Wendell Benton, a beloved husband, father, and friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the age of 91. He was the devoted husband of Carolyn Ann Vought Benton, and together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on June 14, 1934, in Charleston, South Carolina, Leroy was the son of the late Marvin Henry Benton and Lilla Clark Benton. His journey through life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a passion for connecting with others. He proudly served his country in the Army, demonstrating his commitment to duty and service from an early age. After returning home, he settled in South Carolina from Maryland, where he began a fulfilling career as a mechanic, owning and operating his own shop on James Island for many years, where he earned the respect and admiration of his community. Later, he transitioned to a fulfilling career with the Life of Georgia Insurance, where he forged lifelong friendships that enriched his life. After retiring from the insurance business, Leroy continued to contribute to his community by working with Celek & Celek Construction. He eventually traded in his big truck for new cars at Palmetto Ford, embracing the joys of life at a more leisurely pace. Leroy's true joy came from spending time with his family. He was a talented musician, often found playing the guitar and singing, filling the air with melodies that brought smiles to those around him. He loved the water, relishing the moments spent crabbing and fishing, and took immense pride in caring for every lawn he ever owned, reflecting his nurturing spirit. Leroy is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Tina Benton Knight; his son, Leroy Benton Jr.; and a legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by many close family members and friends, who will surely welcome him with open arms. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating Leroy's life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the West Ashley Chapel, followed by burial in Carolina Memorial Gardens. In this time of sorrow, the family invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting their website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Leroy Wendell Benton will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Yesterday

Leroy was a loyal and dedicated employee at our family business, Hinder Ford, located in Aberdeen ,Md. Best detail man I ever knew! he could take any old used car and make it look new in a day. What a professional he was....and a great guy with a real sense of humor. The Hinder family loved and appreciated Leroy Benton. Please accept our deepest condolences. God Bless Leroy and his family

I was always so fond of Mr Leroy. He was always smiling and never had a bad thing to say about or to anyone.
