Leon "Bates" Smith CHARLESTON - Mr. Leon "Bates" Smith, 80, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 30, 2021. The funeral ceremony celebrating his life will be held on Today, Monday, June 7, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in Royal Baptist Church Family Life Center, 4750 Abraham Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405. There will be a public viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Mr. Smith will be entombed with Full Military Honors in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2915 Ashley Phosphate Rd., North Charleston, SC 29418. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Delores Hanesworth Smith; daughter, Shauna Smith; grandchildren: Sha'Niyah, Kailen, and Kyla Smith; brother, Eric Smith; sisters, Betty Doss, Delores Lewis (Robert), Alice Williams (Richard), and Vickie Smith; sister-in-law, Veronica McDaniel (Wade, Sr.); brother-in-Law, Russell Caliph Hanesworth, Sr. (Barbara); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lizzie T. Smith; brother, Andrew Smith; sisters: Bertha Lloyd, and Shirley White.
