Dr. Root was a great person and an outstanding doctor, he had great ablities and a special talent for surgery. He had a kind heart and a willingness to work outside the orthodoxies, as an adult disabled patient, I benefited greatly by this. The world and medicine today could use more people like Dr. Root.

Dr Root was always a kind person and now that I have gotten a good deal older I realized that he also was courageous and confident enough to take on a patient who did not have an ideal situation and see the possible good out come, that created for me. I will always be very grateful and remember him fondly.

Dr. Root was a great doctor, and a very kind person; he took me on as an adult patient with cerebral palsy, for problems that I had from childhood and I am very grateful to him for that.

DR ROOT WAS ONE OF THE FINEST HUMAN BEINGS PUT ON THIS EARTH.
HE WAS THE SOLE PERSON WHO CATAPULTED ME IN MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER AS AN PEDIATRIC ORTHOPEDIC PHYSICAL THERAPIST. WE STAYED IN CONTACT FROM 1969 THROUGH 2009. I CONTINUED TO REFER CHILDREN TO DR ROOT DURING MY 40 YRS IN PRACTICE. HE WAS LOVED BY ALL..I WILL MISS HIM.

We hold a special place in our hearts for Dr. Leon Root. His surgical skills allowed our son with Cerebral Palsy to learn to walk unaided. Because of Dr. Root's caring and gentle manner, our son always faced surgery unafraid and confident. Our son is who he is today at age 38 because of Dr. Root and his team at HSS. The world has lost a great man but his legacy lives on in those he taught, touched and cared for. May his memory be a blessing.

The world has lost the finest human being God ever put on Earth. I would not be able to do half the things I am able to do without the genius and skill of this giant of a man. Dr. Root has been my doctor since 1974. I and all of your patients will miss you and think of you often. To your wife Paula and all his family and friends my heartfelt condolences.
