Leon Chappell Obituary

MSGT Leon Wesley Chappell, Jr, USAF ret., 87, of Moncks Corner, SC, died Wednesday morning at his residence. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon, August 2, 2025, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner, with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to Fisher House, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC 29401-1732. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:30 AM until the hour of service. MSGT Chappell was born June 7, 1938, in LaGrange, Georgia, a son of Leon Wesley Chappell, Sr. and Agnes Cole Chappell. He was of the Baptist faith and attended New Spring Church, Charleston. MSGT proudly served his country in the US Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a coin collector and loved watching FOX News, war movies, westerns, and John Wayne. MSGT Chappell enjoyed reading and gathering with his brotherhood from the Air Force who flew the AC119 "The Shadow". He was preceded in death by his dear Aunt Jessie Roeder who raised him. Surviving are his daughters, Christy Chappell of Moncks Corner, Debbie DeLong and her husband Kenny of Summerville and Gwen Gay and her husband Rick of LeGrange, Ga.; a brother-in-law Joe Benoit and his wife Debbie of Summerville; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
