Lawton Rogers MT. PLEASANT - Lawton Rogers, 98, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 30, 2025. A funeral service in his honor will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2025, at 5:00 PM at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will welcome friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service. Lawton was born on August 25, 1927, in Red Oak, Oklahoma, to John Lawton Sanders and Jewel Andrews Sanders. He shaped his life around a profound faith in Jesus Christ, demonstrating this commitment as a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, where he served for 35 years. His contributions as a Sunday School teacher and mentor to young couples left a lasting impact on many within the congregation. In addition to his spiritual devotion, Lawton was a patriot who proudly served his country with the Merchant Marines and the US Army. Beyond his service, he was an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular love for the game of horseshoes. His competitive spirit shone through as he participated in both the Fayetteville and Mount Pleasant Senior Games, earning numerous medals and ribbons along the way. Lawton and his beloved wife, Barbara, were cherished members of the Sweetgrass community. He was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Sweetgrass," finding joy in greeting neighbors and passersby alongside Barbara at the entrance of their home. He is survived by his two sons, David L. Rogers (Norma) and William P. Rogers (Jeannie); his two daughters, Diana "Deedee" Rogers Malley (Bill) and Laurin Kier (Jen). Lawton was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Rogers, and his parents, John Lawton Sanders and Jewel Andrews Sanders. Lawton Rogers leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, community, and family. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt.
