Lawrence Schroeder Obituary

Lawrence Dudley Schroeder CHARLESTON - Lawrence "Larry" Dudley Schroeder, 87, of Charleston, SC, husband of Martha Virginia "Ginny" Stenberg Schroeder, entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Bishop Gadsden Retirement Center. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden, One Bishop Gadsden Way, at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Larry was born December 31, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of late Gilbert H. and Anna Louise Findling Schroeder. He attended Shaw High school in Cleveland where he played football and was captain of the team. Larry was a graduate of Yale University where he earned a B.E. in Industrial Administration. He had 31 years experience marketing heavy construction equipment at the manufacturer level. He was a district manager for Terex Division Of General Motors and upon early retirement, he went to work for L.B.Smith in Charlotte, NC, where he was responsible for equipment inventory control and deliveries - liaison with Telex Corp. During his career with General Motors, from which he took early retirement in 1981, he and his wife, Ginny, moved from Cleveland to Mentor to Willoughby to Hudson to Atlanta to Crofton, MD in 1973, then moved to Clover (Lake Wylie) SC. Larry's pastimes included golf, reading, modeling ships and planes, volunteering in Kairos Prison ministry for many years and of course avoiding lawn mowing and snow shoveling. This is really what attracted Larry and Ginny to move to Bishop Gadsden in 1999 - a grand place to retire. He is survived by his wife of 50 years; a brother, Neil Rolf Schroeder of Portland, ME; four nephews and one niece. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Gadsden Resident Assistant Fund, One Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC 29412; Kairos of SC, P.O. Box 6211, Columbia, SC 29260 or to a charity of your choice. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
