Lawrence Moseley Obituary

MOSELEY, Lawrence Lawrence Holleman Moseley, 51, long time resident of the Coastal Center in Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully January 29, 2009, at Hospice Center of Charleston, in Mt. Pleasant, SC, after a short battle with cancer. Lawrence was born April 9, 1957, in Charleston, a son of the late Vince Moseley, M.D. and the late Matilda (Tillie) Holleman Moseley. He was a member of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul and a regular camper of Camp Star of Hope. Lawrence attended Second Presbyterian School for the Deaf and Speechless in the early sixties; First Baptist Church School's Special Needs Class in the mid sixties; and the Coastal Center, where he became a permanent resident in 1973. Lawrence's gentle nature and "wonder at the world" that surrounded him always brought JOY to those who worked with him and were around him. Lawrence is survived by his guardian and sister, Esther Moseley Lowndes (Henry) of Charleston: two brothers: Robert Dwight Moseley (Joyce) and William Vince Moseley (Sandee), of Mt. Pleasant: and three other sisters; Julia Moseley Brandon of Charleston; Kelsey Moseley Cattles (Steve) of Cottageville; and Selma Moseley Nelson of Merrimack, NH: six nieces and seven nephews. Lawrence was predeceased by his sister, Raine Moseley Deas: nephew, Wm. Vince Moseley, Jr,: and great niece, Autum Lili Smith. The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Hawk, Jr., Dr. William C. Carter, III, Dr. Stanley Wilson, Dr. Ian Marshall, Dr. Angus Baker, Dr. Scott Lake, the Nurses and Staff of Roper Hospital, 7 West, and Hospice Center of Charleston for their love and care during his recent illness. The family especially wishes to thank the Coastal Center in Summerville, SC, of which he called "home", for all their love, kindness and care of Lawrence during his 36 years in residence. All of you went above and beyond in your care of him, and we as a family are deeply grateful. The relatives, care-givers and friends of Lawrence H. Moseley are invited to attend his memorial service Monday, February 1, 2009, at 11:00 A. M. at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, 126 Coming Street, Charleston, SC. Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive visitors in the church parish hall before the service beginning at 9:30 A. M. Memorials may be made to Coastal Center, 9995 Miles-Jamison Road, Summerville, SC, 29485 or Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464. Arrangements by J.
