Lawrence Mitchum Obituary

MITCHUM, L. O'Neal Lawrence O'Neal Mitchum, 79, of St. Stephen, SC, a retired boilermaker, died Monday morning in a North Charleston hospital. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Thursday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2007, in the St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the ST. STEPHEN CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME from 6:00 until 8:00 PM this Wednesday evening. Mr. Mitchum was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Trio, SC, a son of Roland C. Mitchum and Ethel Rowell Mitchum. He was a member of the St. Stephen United Methodist Church, VFW Post #9509, American Legion Post #62, St. Stephen, and the Boilermaker's Union. He was an Army and a Navy veteran serving in both W.W. II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mitchum was a graduate of St. Stephen High School and was the widower of Dinkie Mitchum. Surviving are, two daughters, Lana Mitchum Beck of Summerville and Tammy Mitchum Shealy of St. Stephen; three sisters, Mary Sue Grunski and Alice Sparrow Garvin both of Columbia, and Ethel Snookie Gwin of St. Stephen; and two grandchildren, Olivia Ellen Beck and Jamie O'Neal Shealy.
