Lawrence Hazen Obituary


HAZEN, Lawrence Lawrence Charles Hazen, 73, of Mount Pleasant, husband of Doris P. Hazen died Friday, October 6, 2006 in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Lawrence Hazen are invited to attend his funeral services, Saturday, October 14, 2006 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL AT 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Mount Pleasant Chapel, Friday from 7:00 until 9:00 o'clock. Mr. Hazen was born July 17, 1933 in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of the late Lawrence Kenneth Hazen and Pearl Pierce Hazen. Mr. Hazen joined the US Navy at age 17 and went from air Navy to diesel submarine in 1963. In 1965, he went into nuclear submarine service and stayed there until his retirement in 1973. He started work with the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1973 and retired in 1994. He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion and the Fleet Reserve, Unit 50. Surviving are his wife, Doris P. Hazen of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one son, Lawrence Michael Hazen and his wife, Linda and their two children, Lawrence Aaron and Leah Heather Fisher and her child, Sienna Fisher; one daughter, Lynn Michelle Harrison and her husband, James Mark Harrison and their children, James Mark Harrison II and Shanna Bell Groves and her son, A.J. Groves; one brother, Bruce W. Hazen of White Lake, MI; and one sister, Jan Quinn, step-mother Isabelle Hazen, five step-children, Gail S. Pohl, Raymond R Swain III, William W. Swain, Mark O. Swain and Carol Lynn Swain, and seven step-grandchildren Audrie Pohl, Caroline Pohl, Jazyln Swain, William Swain II, Chelsea Swain, Raymond R. Swain IV, and Tyler O. Swain. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Branch 50, 2815 Spruill Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405; Veterans of Foreign Wars, (VFW) Post 10624, 1141 Stuart Engles Blvd., Mt.
