Laura Newkirk Charleston - Laura Ann Newkirk, 44, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Born on July 25, 1978 in Charleston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Linda Malone Matthews and William Elbert Matthews. Laura was an accomplished springboard diver through high school and college. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston. She was a scuba Divemaster and a paramedic EMT intermediate. Laura was a property manager in charge with Malone Condos, LLC. She was a state champion at ju jitsu martial arts. She was the founder and administrator of Jet Ski Life of Charleston. Laura loved spending time with her son, Parker, family, and jet ski family. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted daughter and a friend to all. Laura is preceded in death by her mother, Linda Malone Matthews; paternal grandparents, Iris and Elbert Matthews, Sr.; maternal grandparents, James B. and Mary Malone and her son, Parker's father, Lonnie Newkirk. Laura is survived by her son, William Parker Newkirk of Charleston, SC; father, William Elbert Matthews of Johns Island, SC; uncle, Leo Jeffrey Matthews of Georgetown, SC; aunt, Patricia Matthews Rowland of Murrells Inlet, SC and special cousins. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 1:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley.
