Laura Mae Green McKeesport, PA - The relatives and friends of Ms. Laura Mae Green are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service 1:00 PM Saturday, September 17, 2022 at St. Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church, 2840 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC. Interment - St. Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, 2840 Maybank Highway, Johns Island, SC. She will lie-in-state on Saturday from 12:30 PM until the hour of service at the church. On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, Laura Mae "Mena" Green departed this life peacefully at home in McKeesport, PA. She was born October 28, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina, and is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ethel Taylor Green, and sister, Patricia Green, all of McKeesport, PA. Laura was a loving sister/cousin/friend to Karen Green Andrews of McKeesport, PA., and Alvin (Thea) Green of Marlboro, MD. Laura is affectionately known by her friends and family as the best cookie, pie, and scone baker. Laura considered her younger cousins as her own children, Laura's goddaughter, Deanna Lee Adams of Melbourne, Florida. Laura graduated from McKeesport High School in 1959 and went on to the Douglas School of Business. She retired from the City of McKeesport, where she worked for over 47 years. She served in various capacities, including Clerk in the Earned Income Tax Office, Payroll, Business Privilege/Mercantile Collector, Accounts Payable, Deputy Finance Officer, and Pension Disbursement. She ended her tenure with the city in the accounting department as Supervisor/Treasurer. Laura also worked with the City of McKeesport Credit Union, post-retirement. Prior to working with the City of McKeesport Laura worked for Flairs Cleaners, also in McKeesport. Laura was a long-standing member of the McKeesport Semper Fidelis Social Club and held positions of past, president, treasurer, and financial secretary. She participated faithfully in the McKeesport Festival of Trees and other Semper Fidelis annual fund-raising functions. Laura is a faithful member of the McKeesport Heritage Club and Calvary, First United Methodist Church, where William Meekins has pastoral oversight. Over the years, Laura handled the church's finances and served as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Liturgist, and Usher. Laura loved family and community and believed in the Words "Thank You", "Please", and "Excuse me". She was a dear life-long resident of McKeesport PA, living on Jenny Lind. Besides Karen Andrews and Alvin Green, Laura was loved by a host of cousins and friends. Due to COVID-19 protocols, everyone is required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
