Kathy and I met Larry in August 1989 at Salty Mike's, at the City Marina in Charleston. We had just arrived in Charleston and finished tying up our boat on a few minutes before. He was sitting in the chair next to me.
We instantly began to talk to each other, and our friendship began at that moment. We talked every few weeks as he gallantly fought his disease. He knew it would eventually take his life, but he was determined to fight until the end. When he didn't answer my recent phone calls, I feared the worst and did an internet search, only to confirm what I knew. I have lost my best friend. We endured the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo together. Time and events took Kathy and I away from Charleston, but we always stayed in touch. We visited whenever we could as we traveled near each other's home. He was always ready to help anyone if he could. I don't think Larry ever met a stranger. His friendship is something that I will forever remember. He will be missed, but never forgotten. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Met Larry in 2002 at the old Buzzards Roost Marina on Johns' Island. First one to lend a hand to a new ( to me ) boat owner with problems. A unique individual with a wealth of knowledge. Larry will be missed by the boating community and his friends in Charleston. Larry fought a long and tough battle with his health but never one to give up. Thanks for your time and for your friendship my friend. Fair winds and following seas.

We shared a dock with Larry for several years at Buzzards Roost in Charleston. He was a good neighbor, always willing to help.
Our prayers are with Larry and his family. Always, Jim & Joye Wall (no longer Live Aboard's)
