When I was a History Major at The Citadel, I took every course Col Addington taught. He was a brilliant story teller. Battles came alive; you could close your eyes and see an arrow fly or hear a cannon roar. His influence on me was profound. As a criminal defense lawyer, I am called upon to "tell a story" to a jury and I only hope to do a fraction as well as Col Addington. Tip Hargrove Citadel 1971.

Dr Addington ranks up there with Jack Martin and John Coussons as professors whom it was a privilege to learn from. After a career in the military and teaching history thereafter, his insights guided me daily. Thanx Dr Addington and rest in peace knowing that you influenced a great many lives.

Colonel Addington was an excellent professor of history. When I interviewed for a position as a military history instructor at USMA, he very kindly wrote a letter of support to USMA for me. I've never forgotten that. Rest in peace Colonel. Salute.

Larry was a great scholar, teacher, and colleague who made The Department of History at The Citadel a significant center for the study of military history at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. He will be missed by all who the good fortune to know him. And his legacy will endure.
