Landy Gardner Obituary

Landy Wood Gardner WALTERBORO - Mr. Landy Wood Gardner, affectionately known by many as "L.W.", age 94, of 113 Overhill Drive, in the Forest Hills Subdivision of Walterboro, entered into his state of eternal rest Monday evening, June 7, 2010, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Thursday morning, June 10, 2010, from First Baptist Church of Walterboro, 124 South Memorial Avenue, Walterboro, with The Reverend Dr. Randy Gardner and The Reverend Dr. W. Steven Brown officiating. Interment will follow at 3 o'clock that afternoon in Oaklawn Cemetery, Highway 302, Pelion, South Carolina. Mr. Gardner was born September 11, 1915, in Lexington County, South Carolina and was a son of the late Timothy Gardner and the late Tressie Fogle Gardner. He was a retired cutting room supervisor from Smoaks Manufacturing where he worked for many years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro where he formerly served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the F.B. Thomas Sunday School Class. His biggest passion in life was planting his garden. He took great pride in his garden, always enjoying seeing the seeds he planted cultivate and grow and then harvesting his crops to share them with those he loved. L.W. cared for others, anytime a friend or neighbor was in need he was always there to do what he could for them, from cutting their grass to helping with the small things they needed accomplished. He and his wife were active in the H2U group through the Colleton Medical Center and the PEP club. He was twice married, first to the late Mrs. Blanche Wingard Gardner who died in 1963; and was the husband of Mrs. Marie Avant Gardner. In addition to his loving wife of forty-seven years, he is survived by: a son, Dr. Jimmy Landy Gardner and his wife Christa of Johns Island; two daughters, Marie Gardner Trussell and her husband Terry of Jacksonville, Florida and Mary Cathryn Cole of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and a sister, Freddie Poole of Pelion. There are two grandchildren, Canetha Trussell Dodd and her husband Daniel of Savannah, Georgia and Tyler Landy Gardner of Charleston. He was preceded in death by a son, Carlton Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: First Baptist Church of Walterboro, Post Office Box 650, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. Please accept my sincerest condolences. Uncle L.W. was one of my favorite uncles and will be missed. Please tell all that I wish I could have been there for the funeral services. However, I just found out about his passing. Please give my love to all.
