Kinard Pound Obituary

POUND, Kinard GASTON - Services for Kinard Byrd Pound will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Gaston. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Fanning. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME OF LEXINGTON. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law; Kit, Stuart, Chad, Richie Pound, Preston Knight, Tee Newman, Daniel Speares, Matt Drawdy and Dr. Gene Chang. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church Adult Men's Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gaston, 121 Oakey Springs, P.O. Box 309, Gaston, SC 29053. Kinard Byrd Pound, age 85, husband of Wilma Sharpe Pound died Saturday, June 2, 2007, in William J. Bryan Dorn Veteran's Administration Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Pound, a lifetime resident of Gaston, was the son of the late Christian Preston and Rosa Hallman Pound. He was predeceased by brothers, Frank Lewis Pound, Theus Crowder Pound, Craft Preston Pound and Hardin Pound. Mr. Pound was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaston where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He joined the Civil Conservation Corps at the age of 16 and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II stationed aboard the Destroyer Escort USS Fitzhugh Lee. He was a plumbing contractor by trade. He was an instructor of the Youth STEP Program at one time. Mr. Pound served his country and community in various capacities. He served as chairman of the Lexington County Board of Commissioners and was on the Board of Directors of the SC Association of Counties and served on their Legislative Committee. He was a member of the Lexington Medical Center Board of Directors. He was a charter member of the Sandy Run American Legion Post 156 and a member of the Swansea Lions Club. Mr. Pound was on the original committee to establish the Gaston Water District and served as its manager. Mr. and Mrs. Pound donated the land for the Jeffcoat-Gaston Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Wilma Pound; three sons and one daughter, Terry K. Pound and his wife Sandra, Keith H. Pound and his wife, Dianne, Glenn E. Pound and his wife Sunnie Gail, and Collette Knight and her husband Eddie Knight; adopted daughter Amanda Galloway Furr; ten grandchildren, Leilani Patel, Marci Newman and husband Tee, Sandy Drawdy and husband Matt, Kinard Richie Pound, Kit Pound and wife Leigh, Dr. Toya Pound and husband Dr. Gene Chang, Stuart Pound and wife Chelly, Chad Pound and wife Renee, Olivia Speares and husband Daniel, and Preston Knight; twelve great-grandchildren, Wade Patel, Ian and Hampton Newman, Laney and Claire Pound, Anna Grace and Ellis Chang, Stuart and Drew Pound, Cory Byrd and Chase Pound, and Bailey Ann Speares and her sister due to arrive in August. www.thompsonsfuneral.com Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Dear Aunt Wilma, I loved Uncle Kinard very much, I remember spending My Childhood days with him. My Prayers will always be with you and your Family. I can always remember Uncle Kinard as someone I greatly respected. It was a pleasure to visit with him and just listen to him talk. He was definitely a GOOD MAN in every sense of the words.
