Kevin Sughrue Obituary

Kevin Sughrue CHARLESTON - Kevin Sughrue of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, a cherished father, husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 57 after a 4 year battle with cancer. Born on January 29, 1967, in Charleston, South Carolina, Kevin lived a life defined by kindness and an unwavering dedication to those he loved. Kevin was a man of many talents and passions. He spent a good part of his career in the food and beverage, and wine industry, where he developed a deep appreciation for culinary arts, a good cocktail, and fine wines. His expertise and enthusiasm in this field brought much joy to his friends, family and customers. Outside of work, Kevin loved to cook and entertain. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and joy in nature. Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Helen Sullivan Sughrue; his son Patrick; his sister, Carole Carter; his brother John (Sandy); his sister Judy (Mark) Smith; his brothers Patrick and Michael; several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John and Carole Grooms Sughrue. The family will celebrate Kevin's life later in February and will relay the specifics in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kevin's honor to one of the organizations below that in one way or another meant something to Kevin or touched his life in some way. The Charleston Animal Society, SOS Cares, The Trident Technical College Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Kevin's vibrant spirit, mischievous smile, twinkling blue eyes, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I met Kevin in June of 2021. We worked together for the past 3 1/2 years. There are a couple of things I´d like to say about Kevin.. First, is that he always wanted everybody to be happy! ..if you weren´t, then he had a way to make you happy... And if that way didn´t work, believe me.. he had another. Second, Kevin was able to really enjoy the simpler day to day things that a lot of us take for granted.. he appreciated the little things.. everyday was a beautiful day to Kevin. As Romantic writer, William Morris, once said, "The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life."
He must´ve been talking about Kevin Sughrue. Forever in our hearts, Kevin. You will be deeply missed.

Helen, David & I will always remember Kevin´s wonderful laugh, twinkling blue eyes and love of a good time. He helped to make EBTC a fun place to work and his kindness will always be remembered. May the wonderful memories of your wonderful guy help to comfort you in days to come. Our hearts go out to you.
Love,
