Our friendly rivalry started as bat boys for Mr. B´s little league baseball team. We would fight to see who could get the bats first. Later we were in Boy Scouts out at Camp Barstow. Sometimes I would even sub for him on his paper route . We went to the same high school and both became Professional Engineers with advanced degrees. We even had the same mentors: Charles, Jimmy, Alpine,Van and Stan. It is sad that this chapter of our friendly rivalry is over and my condolences to Charlie, Mackie and the Smith Family. I like to think of it as he just has a head start on the next leg.

Another loss of the Class of 81'. He served the people of America well and found time to help the low country with its many confusing environmental regulations with humor and grace. Roy DeHaven Class of 81'

"As a member of The Citadel School of Engineering, I would like to extend my sympathy to the Smith family. I hope in the days and weeks ahead you are able to find moments of peace. I have had the opportunity to get to know Lewis over the last few years. I will miss our lunches and stories of his cadet days and extensive travel. The Dean, myself and The Citadel School of Engineering celebrate a live well lived. Warmly, Jayne Martinko Asst. Dean of Development - Engineering"
