Kathy Beard Obituary

Kathy Ann Boles Beard Lexington, SC - Kathy Ann Boles Beard, 54, of Lexington, South Carolina, wife of David "Scott" Beard entered into eternal rest Thursday, February 8, 2018. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. A gathering of Family and Friends will be held at the home of Frank and Frances Ford 13 Country Club Drive, Charleston, on Friday February 16th at 6:00pm. Kathy was born May 11, 1963 in Kenton, Ohio, daughter of Dolores Willis Boles and the late Harley R. Boles. She was a Tournament Director for the U.S. Golf Association. Kathy is survived by husband, David "Scott" Beard of Lexington, SC; mother, Dolores Willis Boles of San Luis Obispo, CA; daughter, Audrey L. Beard of Lexington, SC; son, William D. Beard of Lexington, SC; brother, Gary R. Boles of Henderson, NV; and sister, Nancy L. Scarry of San Luis Obispo, CA. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends who loved her dearly. Through her work and the numerous places she lived throughout her life, she touched many people. These include, but are not limited to: her family and friends in Ohio including Elgin High School, New Bloomington, LaRue and Marion; her friends from college; The golf community wherever she worked on a tournament; Her Charitable Society friends in Charleston, SC; friends in Annapolis and Baltimore County Maryland; The doctors and nurses who cared for her at Johns Hopkins and MUSC; friends she met though her children's schools and activities; & friends she shared with her husband Scott through his work on behalf of crime victims. Kathy was a dedicated professional and had a way of making people feel special. If Kathy was your friend, you were a friend for life. Kathy was a proud Buckeye having graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelor's of Business Administration (B.B.A) & Marketing in 1986. She went on to work predominately in the Golf community as a Tournament Director, and organizer. She managed a private Marketing and event management services agency that included sponsorship development and fundraising. Her clients included The Capital City Club in Atlanta, GA, for the 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, The Country Club of Charleston, Charleston, SC for the 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur Championships; Nassau Country Club, Long Island NY for the 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur Championships; and Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY, for the 2018 Curtis Cup. Previously, she worked for several leading organizations in sports including the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club, PGA of America, IMG Worldwide, Kiawah Island Resort where she was Tournament Director for the Ryder Cup 1989-1992; and World Cup 1995-1998, and GolfTrust of America. During her two year battle with head and neck cancer, Kathy joined support groups and educated herself on this terrible disease. When Kathy took on a task, she was "in it to win it." She fought bravely for over two years so she could have more time with her family. In her honor the Beard and Boles families have set up a Webpage for donations to the American Cancer Society. Deepest condolences. Kathy was a joy to work with. I had the pleasure of that opportunity in Nassau at the US Women's Amateur.
Living in a Baltimore myself we managed to meet for lunch. A lunch where her family was the main topic of conversation.
May your happy memories bring you some comfort.
Prayers.

My heart goes out to your wonderful family Kathy, grade school would never had been the same had I not had you as my best friend, our love of horses and whatever we could find to do outside always kept us busy. I have always kept those memories close as they are some of my fondest, having so few cares except to be a kid, you were the best friend and even though our lives took us in opposite directions I never forgot about you and will remember you always, I remember talking with you before my divorce and your advice, Thank you for your friendship, you were always the better of the two of us.

To the Beard family -- May God bless all of you. As a USGA staff member, I had the true pleasure of working with Kathy and she will always be remembered by me as a 'pro' who blended genuineness with courtesy, kindness and friendship. My memories of her will be seeing her beam when she saw the trophy being handed out. She is a champion in my mind. All of my deepest sympathies and prayers -- Warmly -- Pete Kowalski
