Kathleen Nimmo Obituary

Kathleen Louise "Katie" Shroka Nimmo SUMMERVILLE - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Louise "Katie" Shroka Nimmo, 76, of Summerville, SC, who entered into eternal rest surrounded by her family on August 31, 2025. Katie was born on October 22, 1948, in Bethesda, MD, and was the beloved daughter of Charles John Shroka and Catherine Marie Flaherty Shroka. Katie will be remembered for a life filled with love, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. After earning a business degree from the College of Charleston, she began a successful career in finance. Later, following her true passion of working with children, she earned a Master of Arts in elementary education. Teaching brought her immense joy, and she touched countless young lives with her knowledge, warmth, and patience. She volunteered her time for many years to run the Terrific Kids program at her school and was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2005. She is survived by her devoted husband, Theodore Nimmo, who lovingly and faithfully cared for her throughout her illness, living out his vow to cherish her in sickness and in health and treating her always with grace and dignity. She is also survived by her daughter, Aimee O'Keefe (Brian), and was a proud grandmother to three grandsons - Bennett Love (Katelyn), Coleman O'Keefe, and Leyton O'Keefe - as well as a cherished great-grandmother to James Love and Molly Love. She found endless joy in time spent with her grandchildren, whether taking them to Disney movies, visiting the water park, or cheering them on at their many sporting events. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, a constant source of love, encouragement, and strength that will forever be remembered. Known affectionately as "Grand Katie", she deeply loved her bonus children and cherish the times when "everyone was together". They include Rhonda Red (Ron), Theodore Nimmo, Jr., and Rad Nimmo (Lindsey), along with 8 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Laura Caligiuri; her brother, Kevin Shroka, her nephew, Rowand Robinson (Kristen); and niece, Emma Sain (Scott). She was preceded in death by her parents; her nephews, Andrew Robinson and Nicholas Caligiuri; and her brother-in-law, Chris Caligiuri. Katie's love for her family and friends was boundless. She treasured her friendships, especially with John and Sandy Dumas, and found joy in time spent with those she loved. A funeral service to celebrate Katie's life will be held on Friday, September 5th, 2025, at J. Henry Stuhr's Inc., West Ashley Chapel, located at 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and interment will follow the service at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, located at 3093 Ashley River Road. A reception will follow at 410 Mendenhall Road, Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org or any organization of your choosing that works to eradicate dementia disease.
