Kathleen Lee Obituary

Kathleen Edwards Lee Mt. Pleasant - Kathleen Edwards Lee, 96, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late James Edward Lee and beloved mother, grandmother and sister, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Due to COVID-19, all services will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Kathleen was born July 19, 1924 in Mangum, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Marvin Edwards and the late Ruth Powers Edwards. She was a devoted wife and mother, successfully juggling the raising of her family with her role as spouse of a successful oil executive in many different countries. Kathleen could dry a child's tears in the morning and then entertain foreign Heads of State that evening without missing a beat. She was a talented artist and musician and deeply involved in promoting the art program at Franke. Her many delicious recipes will carry on - Kathleen's shrimp and chicken gumbo is a family tradition. She attended Lamar College, and was a grammar expert - politely but firmly correcting any and all. Playing Scrabble with Kathleen was a sure bet to losing. She was a member of First Scots Presbyterian, and in more recent years regularly attended the Rodenburg Chapel at Franke. Like her husband, Jim, Kathleen held deep Christian beliefs, and is now with her Lord and Savior for a joyous eternity. She is survived by three children, Janet E. Havens of Minneapolis, MN, Douglas Bennett Lee of Boulder, CO and James Stephen "Steve" Lee (Sharon) of Oakmont, PA; one brother, Ben Edwards of Dallas, TX; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and two daughters, Kay Elizabeth Strickland and Ruth Lee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rodenburg Chapel Fund at Franke at Seaside, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

I have such fond memories of Kathleen. I met her when I joined the Women's Committee at Carnegie Museum of Art in 1995. I volunteered to work on one of the Christmas Trees, and was fortunate to have Kathleen invite me to join her committee. Her workshops were inspiring, productive and pure fun. We sewed, we painted, we created paper mâché angels to rival the Presepio. I still co-chair one of the trees at the Carnegie (though sadly there will be no trees this year) and it is all because of Kathleen -- and her gracious, welcoming spirit who first introduced me to the Carnegie Trees 25 years ago.

Years later, my husband and I were staying in Charleston and drove over to Mt. Pleasant to walk the beach. The first person we saw on the beach that day was Kathleen. Drinks and dinner with Kathleen and Jim were quickly planned for the next night. A simply lovely evening, and a special memory.

Dear Family,
I was so sorry to read of Kathleen's passing in our church bulletin. She and Jim were church friends a First Scots and for many years a part of the same Koinonia monthly dinner group. They were part of its core -- always in attendance and offering wonderful hospitality in their own homes once a year.

Several times I co-hosted with them as a dinner helper, both at their high-rise apartment on Isle of Palms and their Franke apartment. I'll always remember the first time I learned that Kathleen had painted her wine glasses, and another time finding Jim in the kitchen patiently carving up four turkey breasts for that night's dinner.

They were both part of fond memories. I missed our brief Sunday morning hello's when they no longer came to First Scots on a regular basis. You had wonderful parents and grandparents.

God bless--

Dear, Sweet Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you say your final good by to Aunt Kay. She was a mighty woman, wonderful wife and mother and aunt. She had a great influence on all of our family. So many fond memories and there is so much that she taught us and modeled for us through her life. So sad that we cannot all be together during this time but as you celebrate her life please know that we wish that we could be with you and love all of you dearly. Kent and Connie
