Katherine Childs LADSON - Mrs. Katherine "Kathy" Marcella Childs, age 61, wife of Robert Blair Childs II, of Ladson, SC passed away Friday evening, January 14, 2011, at her home surrounded by her beloved family and friends. The family will be receiving guests at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC on Friday, January 21, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. until her funeral mass. Friends and family of Mrs. Childs are invited to attend her funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, January 21, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. Burial will commence at Plantation Memorial Gardens in Moncks Corner, SC on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. The procession will begin at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL at 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC. Mrs. Katherine Marcella Macias was born on December 24, 1949, in Grants, NM, a daughter of Florentino and Matilda Naranjo Macias. She proudly served her country in the United States Navy for over 20 years and retired as a Petty Officer First Class. During this time she traveled throughout the world, residing in Charleston, South Carolina, Hawaii, California, Tennessee, and Spain where she met her husband, Bob, of 33 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek, SC. She was also a member of the Santuario de San Martin in Albuquerque, NM. Katherine is survived by her husband, Mr. Robert Blair Childs II of Ladson, SC; one daughter, Sandra Maria Childs of Alexandria, VA, three sons, Robert Blair Childs, III of Chapel Hill, NC, Patrick Blair Childs (Laura) of Kingsland, GA and Thomas Diego Childs of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, Katherine, Christopher, Andrew, Nicholas, Bradley, Audrey and Liam. Her siblings include four brothers and four sisters: Mabel Rivera of Pecos, NM, Phillip Macias of Albuquerque, NM, Carlos Macias of Red River, NM, Herlinda Chavez of Torreon, NM, Rosemary Armijo, Florentino Macias, Jr. (deceased), Dubie Baca, and Joseph Macias all four of Albuquerque, NM. Katherine was a loved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and confidant. She inspired everyone who crossed her path and her smile was contagious. May she have "fair winds and following seas" in her next journey. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home or memorial contributions in memory of Katherine Childs may be made to the Hospice of Charleston Foundation 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC, 29464.
