Kate Culbertson Obituary

Kate Moody Culbertson SUMTER, SC - Kate Moody Culbertson, 90, widow of Charles Burts Culbertson, went to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 19, 2009, in Sumter, SC. Born in Dillon County, she was a daughter of the late Alton Moody and the late Sally Hayes Moody. Mrs. Culbertson was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston and was a member of Drayton on the Ashley Garden Club. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and was a retired Charleston County school teacher. Survivors include a son, Charles B. "Chuck" Culbertson, Jr. (Debbie) of Laurens; a daughter, Jean C. Lewis (Barry) of Sumter; four grandchildren, Andrew Charles Culbertson (Emily), Jennifer Landon (Jacob), Katie Kerechanin (Andy), and Elizabeth Lewis; and a sister, Ruth Fetner of CA. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens with the Rev. Charles Clanton and the Rev. Marcus Bishop officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave. North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, or to Tri-County Hospice, 1236B Wilson Hall Road, Sumter, SC 29150-1889. Just wanted to express my condolences - I just heard of Kate's death this morning at our Garden Club of Drayton meeting. She was so nice and fun to know. I enjoyed knowing her in our Garden club as well as our neighborhood. Love and God bless, Frances Knight

I was very saddened to read that Ms. Culbertson had passed away. She was was such a wonderful teacher and one of my favorites at Dorchester Terrace. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I am sorry to hear about Ms. Culbertson. She was my 4th grade teacher, and I am now 55 yrs old, but I remember her and how nice she was to me. May God bless you all.
