Karl Mathis Obituary

Karl Quinton Mathis N. CHARLESTON - Karl Quinton Mathis, 60, of North Charleston, South Carolina, slept away peacefully with his Family by his side on Monday, March 15, 2021. Karl was born June 15, 1960, in Charleston, South Carolina, to James Walter Mathis and Frances Rebecca Mathis (ne;e Simmons). Karl was one of 8 siblings - which included Jerrold, James ("Jimmy"), John, Frederick ("Ricky"), Darrell, Francis, and Ruthe. Karl graduated from Charleston High School in 1977, and attended South Carolina State University. He later moved to Miami, Florida, where he worked as a Telesales Representative for many years, before returning to North Charleston. Karl was humble, kind, caring, and loved his family dearly. He never failed to miss annual family gatherings no matter how near or far. Karl was the family historian in that he remembered the birthdays of each of his brothers and sister, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews alike. One can always expect a birthday card in the mail or a phone call conveying his wishes, which also included Father's Day, Mother's Day, and all of the major holidays throughout the year. To his many nieces and nephews, Karl will always be an award-winning Uncle, who never missed a graduation, and who always recognized and cheered on each of their milestones and achievements. He also had a passion for working out and religiously stuck to his exercise regimen, whether he was at home or visiting with family and friends. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. Karl was predeceased by his parents, James and Frances. Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Jerrold of Silver Spring; Jimmy and Darrell of North Charleston; Ricky of Charleston; John of Nashville; Francis of Atlanta; sister, Ruthe of Tampa; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, sisters-in-law, family, and friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dickerson Mortuary, LLC. A graveside funeral will be held Saturday, March 20th, at 3:00pm at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. To the countless well-wishers, the Family thanks you for your extraordinary support, communications, visits, and infinite kindness during this very difficult time. May God bless you! “King Karl” as he signed his name on the walls of Charleston High, is one of my most memorable characters. Hit one from the corner in the Branchville gym against Blackville to seal the conference championship. Never met a shot he didn’t like. Ate 13 hamburgers at my house once. The whole Mathis family will always be part of me. I am so sorry

Carl, was the most kindest cousin any family could ever want. We were born the same year 6 months apart. The family will deeply miss his participations at family reunions, and home coming celebrations . He always came to his sister, brothers, nieces, and nephews functions and parties. Carl had a generous and kind character about him that was felt every time you talk him. Carl was a rare genius with a loving heart. Sincere sympathy from Darnell.
