Karl Jessen Obituary





JESSEN, Karl Karl Heinz Jessen, 77, husband of Linda Jessen (nee Vilches), of Summerville, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Born December 15, 1929 in Flensburg, Germany, he was the son of the late Friedrich Jessen and Käthe Sörensen. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He enthusiastically played European handball and field hockey player in his youth, was a member of the North Shore Soccer Club, sang with the Liederkranz Choral Society on Long Island, NY, and was a member of the VFW Post #3142 in Charleston. He was a former member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Long Island, NY and most recently a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Goose Creek. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jürgen, and niece, Birgit. He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 47 years; his daughter, Donna L. Jessen of Alexandria, VA; his son, David K. Jessen, daughter-in-law, Barbara and his grandchildren, Ethan and Ryan of Goose Creek; his brother, Horst Jessen, his wife, Gitta, and nephews Dirk and Jörg of Flensburg, Germany; his brother, Dieter Jessen, of Flensburg; his sister, Käthe (Püppi) Jacobsen, her husband Friedrich, nephews Helge, Manfred and Arne, and niece, Antje of Flensburg; his sister, Traute Priess, her husband, Horst, nephew Frank, and niece, Meika of Kirchen-Weg, Germany; his brother-in-law, Ralph Vilches and his wife, Betsy of Florida, and his nieces, Debbee, Dina and Vikki. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 14, 2007 at 1:00 pm at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Goose Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Jessen's honor to St. Timothy's Youth Program. Online condolences may be sent via www.mcalister-smith.com.
