On the 17th I'll mark 3 years since I lost a great friend and mentor. Nancy, Kenneth and all the family, know that your father made a mark in many in this world! Especially, on me! We traveled together, we shared a love for our profession, and we worked to improve it! I will be in beautiful Charleston in on the 20th, and I will think of my brother.
Old Dick, you are missed, and loved my friend. Know you'll never be forgotten!

Nancy, Kenneth and all the family, Dick Davenport was like big a brother to me! He was an institution well beyond his beloved Charleston! He was an institution to all of us in the eyecare world. He was a man whose friendship I treasure to this day. He mentored me, and we shared many conversations that will always remain with me. I remember my visits to the house he so loved! We would sit and talk for hours, and I treasure those moments. I was passing through the area on the way to a performance with the band down that way early in the summer. I left hours early for one reason! I had to go by the house and the Club one more time! I parked out front and just sat there looking for the flag from Tennessee that was regularly stolen! But old Dick always got a new one!
I can go one with stories about him for hours. I can see him right now in the Southeastern Board meeting. Dick didn't sit at the table, he walked around it and directed traffic!
I hope you always know that I lived him and he made an impact on my life. If you ever need me, know I am here!
With all my respect and admiration,
Warren

Dick Davenport was a hero to me, and I miss him every day. We talked often throughout the years, and I was always confident in his mentoring and professional support for me through the years. He was important to Opticians all across the United States, playing a major role in every professional association, and especially in his beloved South Carolina.
But more than just his professional endeavors, Dick was a man who loved his family, and his friends. I will always cherish the times we spent together, and proud to remember my dear friend on this anniversary of his passing. I will always remember him, and want to send my best to all the family. May God grant each of you peace today and always, and know that Dick led a rare life. He was a special man who leaves a lasting legacy, and I loved him for all he did for me and all of us through the years. If a young Optician becomes certified by ABO or NCLE it is due to the leadership of Dick Davenport. The license in SC is important, and he also played a major role in making that a reality. He was, and will always be in my heart. I miss you my brother, but I know you are in a better place. Please watch over us from above as you always did while you were here. I know I will see you again one day.

I met Dick when he was president of our early morning breakfast club at the Marina Variety Store a number of years ago. I have fond memories of that joyous way for the group to start our days. He truly was a Charleston institution and I am sad that he has left us.

Opticianry lost a giant with the passing of Dick Davenport. My brother, you meant more than you will ever know to me and thousands of others in the profession. But more than that, you were a mentor and guide during my professional journey. I am honored to have been your friend and colleague. RIP, my friend. A life well lived.

Dick was a Charleston and King Street institution, with a warm smile for everyone. We have lost one of the "pillars" of the Charleston world. He will be very missed.

Dick was a wonderful man, always generous with his time, always affable and a gentleman. We fellow members of the St. David's Society will miss him.

I am so very sorry to learn of Dick's passing. For many years I depended on him to fill my eye glass prescriptions. He was a very kind and caring man.
