June Matzner CHARLESTON - June Kemmerlin Matzner, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Commander Rudolph Matzner, USN (Ret.), entered eternal rest Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, May 4, 2025, in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street, at 12:00 pm. Interment to immediately follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 pm to 6 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc, Downtown Chapel. June was born in Columbia, South Carolina August 3, 1935, daughter of Almon and Frances Collins. As a child, she moved with her parents to Atlanta, Charlotte and Columbia before arriving in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where she attended schools from 8th grade, on through graduation from Orangeburg High School in June 1953. She was a proficient and popular student, a cheerleader and chosen as "Queen of Hearts" in her junior year. Enrolling in Furman University in 1957, she graduated in 1957 and soon after graduation married her high school sweetheart, Rudolph (Rudy) Kemmerlin, who was then attending Veterinary Medicine graduate program at the University of Georgia. June embarked on her educational career, teaching at Winder, Georgia High School while her husband was in graduate school. When Dr. Kemmerlin graduated in 1958, they moved to Bamberg, South Carolina, where June continued teaching in the high school there. They moved to Charleston in 1961 and opened Ashley River Animal Hospital. June continued teaching in the Charleston County School System. She was active in the Charleston Rotary Auxiliary, president of the Northbridge Terrace Garden Club, cub scout den mother and as a committed Leader and choir member of Citadel Square Baptist Church, also teaching in the church's school. She began a second career as a Realtor in 1976 and continued as a licensed Realtor until shortly before her death, achieving Realtor Emeritus status in 2017. Although a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for several years, the aspect of Real Estate which she like most was helping people to satisfy their housing needs. She was widowed in 2001 and married again in 2009 to Rudy Matzner. They served together in outreach ministries of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and travelled extensively in Europe. Along with her husband of over 15 years, she is survived by her daughter, Cindy K (Paul) Nigro; two sons, Rudolph H. (Susan) Kemmerlin, Jr., Karl (Michelle) Kemmerlin, stepdaughter, Amy M. (Kenneth) Acker; stepson, John R. (Lucy) Matzner; brother, Tim Collins; grandchildren, Julia Nigro (Paul) Vasquez, Ruben Kyle Kemmerlin, Lydia K. (Orry) Courtney, Paul Vincent Nigro, two step-grandchildren, M. Albert Stutts, William Benjamin Stutts; and four great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robin Collins. Memorials may be made to Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church or charity of the donor's choice.
