Julie Rand Obituary

Julie Rand RIDGEVILLE, SC - Julie Mau Rand passed peacefully at home in Ridgeville with her family on October 9, 2024. She was born on October 8, 1947, in Littlefield, TX. After graduating from St. Andrew's High School in Charleston, she enlisted in the Army and proudly served her country as an Army nurse in Seoul, Korea, during the Vietnam War. She was an alumna of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in Rhode Island and was one of very few women accepted into anesthesia school at that time. Julie passionately cared for her patients as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and truly loved her career in medicine. For decades, and in countless Trident operating rooms, Julie was blessed to work beside her lifelong friends, whom she lovingly referred to as the "Trident Golden Girls." She loved to garden and was a member of the Ridgeville Garden Club. On any given weekend in the spring or summer, you could find Julie excitedly bush-hogging the fields and roads of her family farm in Cottageville or setting off with her beloved papillon, Belle, to camp and kayak the state's beautiful waterways. She was a German Shepard fanatic and never left a rescue shelter without a new canine family member in tow. Julie will be best remembered as an unwaveringly devoted (albeit occasionally frustrated) Gamecock football fan. She found limitless delight in spending time with her daughter and son-in-law. Julie was a remarkable role model and loving mother to her daughter, who was the pride and joy of her life. Julie is survived by her daughter, Sarah DeAnn Rand- McDaniel, and her son-in-law, Seth Thomas McDaniel, of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is predeceased by her parents, Margie Blanton Mau and Peter Henry Mau, Jr.; and sister, Nancy Mau Morone. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 10:30AM at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends for a visitation the night before from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Burial will follow at Rudd Branch Cemetery, 1350 Lebanon Road, Ridgeville, SC 29472. In lieu of flowers, Julie wished to be honored with donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to a Gamecock NIL Collective of your choice (because Lord knows, they need it). Arrangements by PARKS FUNERAL HOME, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. www.parksfuneralhome.com

Our deepest sympathy to Julie's family at her passing. We were great friends during the early '70s when she and Nancy lived at the Plantation Apartments. Those were fun times with great memories of the two of them. I know Nancy's death was a great loss for her. God's peace to her family. Jeanne and Don Gerhardt

We have known Julie for over 40+ years. We respected her duty to military service and anesthesia patient care. Guaranteed, she was always a bright spot! She was witty and funny, and you always knew she would speak her mind when you asked for her opinion. Her love of animals and her green-thumb in the garden will be missed. She enjoyed planning and picnicking with the Golden-Girls and Guys. Perhaps we need to continue to honor her memory. ~ Glenn and PJ LePine.
