I will remember Uncle Julian, my grandmother's brother, as one of the best among us. He epitomized kindness, southern hospitality, chivalry, and generosity. He brought every generation together with love and laughter. He did that with a grace that made it look effortless.

I enjoyed many hours with Jerry at the bridge table. He and Kip stayed with us in Columbia during the Hugo devastation to Waywood Acres. They brought it back to it's beautifully lanscaped Eden. He will certainly be missed.

Julian Hayes was the son of Allison and Lena Hayes, and he was the nephew of John Riley Hayes, my grandfather - ALL were among the finest people I have ever known. He was a devoted friend to everyone he touched, a master of life. Heaven is where he belongs. Heaven is where he is.

Julian was my uncle and made all of our lives so special. There was never a graduation, wedding or special event he did not put his personal touch to make the occassion better. He took me to my first play when I was 16 and I have loved the theater ever since. He took me to my first night club. I heard jazz for the first time.

He was the family hstorian and so loved by all of us. He taught us the meaning of sophistication and integrity. I can't imagine our family without him at the helm. He was a true gentleman.

I will miss Julian's twinkling eyes and smile. I had the pleasure to have traveled with him on several of my parent's rose garden tours to Europe. It was a pleasure to have known him and to have been in his garden.

Julian was truly the best neighbor and friend anyone could ever have. I will never forget the beautiful flowers he would leave on my porch and the lovely notes I have received from him over the past seven years. It was a great honor to have called him my friend. He was the kindest man I ever met and we will miss him forever.

His heart was full of love for all things surrounding him.His passion for his camellias and roses was infectious as was his zest for life. We will certainly miss him but always remember him by the joy he has left in our hearts for having known him.

Jerry brought so much into our lives and shared his history freely and with pride.

We will miss him greatly, but are happy to know that Kip was in Heaven cooking breakfast for him when Jerry got there.

We had the pleasure of knowing Julian as a neighbor and friend for the past few years. We only wish we had met him earlier. His travel photos, tales of adventures, gorgeously manicured gardens, his willingness to do anything to help a friend , & his warm heart will always be remembered so very fondly. We have never met anyone quite as special as Julian.

I will always remember Uncle Julian for his kindness and thoughtfulness, his love of friends and family as well as his love and appreciation of the beauty of the Earth.

His roses and camelias represent his labor of love and passion for gardening. I'll never forget the care that he took to bring me flowers from his yard after driving all the way to Virginia Beach, Charlotte, and earlier this year to Naples.

I admire him for his devotion to friends and family, for making his part of the world more beautiful, and for his courage when life became so difficult. There must be thousands of people who were touched by his kindness over the years, and his good deeds have continued even after his passing.

Thank you.
