Julian Creighton "Skinny" Hay CHARLESTON - Julian Creighton "Skinny" Hay, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Margaret Elizabeth Pooser Hay, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 6, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday in the Downtown Chapel from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Skinny was born May 22, 1933 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Oliver Hay and Carrie Mae Price Hay Wiggins. After the death of their father, he and his siblings were raised in the Charleston Orphan House. He graduated from Charleston High School and the University of South Carolina. He was a diehard, long suffering Gamecock fan who loved college football. Skinny was a Mechanical Engineer and worked at Raybestos-Manhattan (Garco) in North Charleston and Alumax in Goose Creek. He was honored to serve on the board of directors, and as president, for the Carolina Youth Development Center (formerly Charleston Orphan House). Skinny also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; daughter, Kimberly Hay Rahrig (Bill) of Jensen Beach, FL; son, David Allen Hay (Sheila) of Summerville; sister, Anna Lee Amell Postell of Summerville, SC; brother, Tom Hay of Orangeburg, SC; and three grandchildren: Hayley Rahrig, Brandon Rahrig and David Allen Hay II. He is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Skinny was known for his dedication to his family and loving, generous spirit. He was quick witted and a joy to be around. He was loved immensely and will be missed beyond measure. Skinny was preceded in death by his siblings: Benny Hay of Charleston; Paul Hay of Charleston; Maurice Hay of Charleston; and Janie Wiggins Claxton of Hanahan. Memorials may be made to the Carolina Youth Development Center (formerly Charleston Orphan House) at cydc.org or American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
