Julia Mitton Obituary
MITTON, Julia MARION, VIRGINIA - Julia Mae Johnston Mitton, age 95, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at her home after an extended illness. Born on September 22, 1909 in Pender County, North Carolina, she was a graduate of New Hanover High School and had worked in Radio and Television Managements for 27 years. She was a former resident of Charleston, South Carolina and was an active member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. Mrs. Mitton later lived in Austin, Texas, where she was a member of the Manchaca Baptist Church. She was a G.A. Leader in several churches for 30 years, and upon moving to Marion, Virginia, in 1992 she was a faithful member of the Marion Baptist Church and the Sherrill Memorial Sunday School Class. Mrs. Mitton was preceded in death by her mother, Janie Farrow Johnston; her father, John J. Johnston, four brothers, Edward, John J., William J., and Walter F. Johnston; and three sisters, Eunice Johnston, Mirian Newton, and Will D. Thomas. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Duane Vaughn Sarge Mitton of Marion, Virginia. Two sisters-in-law, Mrs. William (Bozie) Johnston of Charleston, South Carolina, and Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Johnston of Wilmington, North Carolina. One niece, Judith Johnston Ellis of Wilmington, North Carolina. Four nephews, Fred Johnston of Abingdon, Virginia; Steve Johnston of Charleston, South Carolina; Andrew Johnston of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Walter F. Johnston, Jr. of Wilmington, North Carolina. Her longtime caregivers, Vanessa & David Teaters. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 20th at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Ross , the Rev. Carlton Blankenship, and Mr. Blake Frazier officiating. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, North Carolina with Dr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
