Judy Black Obituary

Judy Walters Black CHARLESTON - Judy Walters Black entered into eternal rest on September 20, 2024, in Charleston, SC. Judy was born in Charleston to Letha Cribb Walters and Dibbon Keith Walters on July 30, 1949. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Barbara and Jackie, and brother, Keith, as well as her son, Gerald "Jay" A. Black, Jr. Judy was married to Retired Brigadier General Gerald "Jerry" A. Black (USAFR) for 40 years. She is survived by her husband and her children, Kristin Black of Evergreen, CO, Katherine Strickland (Walter) of Atlanta, GA, Courtney Toporek of Charleston, and six beautiful grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Judy was an elementary school teacher, then a proud stay-at-home mother to Jay and Kristin. Judy enjoyed golfing, cross-stitching, reading and the beach. She graduated from St. Andrews Parish High School in 1967. She went on to receive her Bachelor's in Teaching from the Baptist College in Charleston, now known as Charleston Southern. As a military wife, Judy lived in the Philippines, New Jersey, New York, California and Charleston. Upon the retirement of her husband, the two of them bought a home in Florida and split their time between there and Charleston. She loved Florida. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel on Glenn McConnell Pkwy. Burial will be immediately after at Live Oak Memorial Gardens on Highway 61. Donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
