Judith Calfee Obituary

Judith Calfee AWENDAW - Judith Woodrum Calfee, age 83, passed away on April 2, 2025, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family. She resided in Awendaw, South Carolina. Born on November 18, 1941 in Camden, South Carolina, Judy moved frequently as a child, living in various places in Virginia, West Virginia, and South Carolina. These formative years taught her how to meet new people and make good friends. She graduated from high school in Fairfax, Virginia, and attended Mary Washington College. Though she was an only child, Judy shared a deeply special bond with her cousin, Pat Moore, with whom she enjoyed a lifelong friendship. Judy enjoyed a fulfilling and successful career in human resources, beginning at the Portsmouth Psychiatric Center and continuing with many years at Dominion Enterprises. After retiring, Judy embraced her love for travel, venturing to destinations around the globe with close friends, and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She loved the outdoors - especially the beach, a sunset, a moonrise, and anything to do with the water. She was always enthusiastic about adventure, eager to explore new places and create lasting memories with those she loved. Her friends often credit her with being the driving force behind many of their adventures. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She also loved her sweet dogs, Mugs, Claira, Spencer, and Hank. In 2013, Judy married Bill Calfee, and together they enjoyed a wonderful partnership, traveling extensively and building a life filled with joy, love, and shared experiences. Their beautiful home in Awendaw, South Carolina had a revolving door for family and friends to enjoy "Bill and Judy's Slice of Paradise," and she loved nothing more than sitting on the back porch with her family and a glass of sauvignon blanc. Judy's warm spirit and positivity made her a bright light in every room she entered. She had a remarkable ability to connect with others, making friends wherever she went, and her compassion was felt by all who knew her. To know her was to love her, and she had the unique gift of making people feel seen and loved. Judy is survived by her beloved husband, William "Bill" Davis Calfee, Jr., and her children: Carl (Teresa), Marsha, Rick (Robin), Jane (Nora), and David (Kim). She was a cherished grandmother to Gray, Tripp (Sydney), Macon, Clay (Mallory), Austin, Emma, Chelsea (Kyle), Madi (Worth), David Allen, and Katie (Trey), and adored her great-granddaughters, Aubrey, Brynn, and Claire and her great-grandson, Innis. She had lots of extended family and many friends whom she considered family. Judy was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Margaret Woodrum, and her grandson, Will Calfee. A celebration honoring Judy's life will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation (www.komen.org) or to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (myasthenia.org) in Judy's memory. The Calfee and Hardee families would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach for their unwavering care and compassion during Judy's final days. Judy's legacy of kindness, positivity, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her, and her infectious smile will be missed by many.

Although I only had the pleasure of knowing Judy for an evening, while sitting next to her at dinner, we had a wonderful conversation and she was so warm and inviting. She made us feel like family and left a lasting impression on my heart.
Bill, may the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

What a lovely, charming woman Judy was. I knew her very briefly but she left such a positive impression. God bless her family and friends.
