Juanita Warren Obituary

Juanita Miles Warren CHARLESTON - Juanita Miles Warren passed peacefully at age 94 with close family at her side on Sunday August 5, 2012. Juanita, known as "Nita" to her friends and family, was born on July 12, 1918, in Coolidge, Texas to Hughlet David Miles and Irene Barham Miles. After her formal schooling, which culminated at North Texas State Teachers College, she began her life-long career as an educator. This was periodically interrupted by her other career of wife and mother, which she also cheerfully assumed, while still proudly supporting her husband's military career, which took her throughout the US and Europe over the course of several decades. She had met her husband, VanCleave P Warren, of Sumter, SC, while he was preparing for his role in WWII at an Army training facility near her initial teaching post. Following a short courtship and subsequent wedding, then the separation caused by the war, they spent the next 50 years together, working together loyally/steadfastly, to raise their family and pursue their life work. When the end of Van's active duty career led him to the faculty at The Citadel, in Charleston, Nita resumed her teaching career, most notably as a 5th grade teacher in the Charleston public school system. She was especially proud to have inspired many students in her regular classrooms, as well as in the Gifted Student programs, for which she was credited for having piloted. Nita had also served the Charleston, SC, community as a Counselor and Caseworker for the local Florence-Crittenden Home, as well as actively participated in her church, the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. Nita Warren is survived by her three children, Jeanne Warren Raymond, Judy C Warren, and Van Warren. Jeanne and Van each gave her two grandchildren apiece, and from Jeanne's children, Danny and Renie, Nita was further blessed with seven great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed a loving extended family of cousins and relations in her home state of Texas, especially her dear cousin, Mrs. Margadelle Yelverton of Tehuacana, Texas. She loved so many, and was loved by them all. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to The Village at Summerville (formerly known as The Presbyterian Home at Summerville), 201 W. 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting the Stuhr website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC. A graveside service will be held at the Warren family plot in Sumter, SC, at the Sumter Cemetery at 11AM, Monday, August 13, 2012. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Jeanne, I loved your mom. She was always so sweet to me. I enjoyed our many conversations about her experiences in life. She lived a good life and enjoyed helping others. I know she's happy to be with her beloved Heavenly family now. She will always be watching over her Earthly family with love. Her obituary is touching tribute to her life.
