Joyce Tyler Obituary

Joyce McGee Tyler MT. PLEASANT - Left earth for heaven on June 21, 2014 after a long battle with lung disease. Joyce was born in Charleston on October 10, 1932, to Elbert and Gail McGee. She attended Ashley Hall and North Charleston High where she played basketball and made many lifelong friends. Joyce attended Winthrop, University of Houston, Houston Baptist College, and graduated from Herman Hospital School of Nursing earning her RN degree. She served many patients with her compassionate nursing skills. She worked at the VA, and then Charleston Memorial Hospital where she was a floor nurse, a head nurse, a supervisor, head of the IV team, and supervisor of nursing when she retired. Joyce was a member of North Charleston Methodist Church and their U.M.W. and Anita Way Circle. She was an active participant in BSF for many years. In recent years she affiliated with First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant where she collected even more friends. Having lived a Christ-centered life, all who knew her found her to be a gracious, selfless person always willing to help anyone in need. Her family and friends were her main focus and joy. Joyce was a loving friend, mother, sister, grand-mother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her children, BJ Walker, Bruce Walker and Nancy (Walker) Shepard, 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her only sister, Carol Ann, who misses her daily phone chats. She is preceded in death by her son, Donnie Walker. A visitation for family and friends will be held at J. Henry Stuhr's North Area Chapel, Saturday, June 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and a celebration of her life on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. Interment at Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery. Isaiah 40:31 Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

She was and always will be my aunt. So many wonderful memories and so often thoughts of Joyce would enter my heart. Just this afternoon swimming-remembering her teaching swimming in Brookshire at her aunt's house. Nancy and I both wore her wedding dress. I am very much in mourning. Penny and Lynn Tucker
