Joyce Fleniken Obituary

FLENIKEN, Joyce ORANGEBURG - Mrs. Joyce Brown Rogers Fleniken, 80, of Orangeburg, SC, died Wednesday, November 29, 2006, in The Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2006, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Jones, Rev. Toni Pipkin and Rev. Henry Cooper. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Fleniken, affectionately known as "Miss Joyce" was born in Norway, a daughter of the late John Vard and Mary McDaniel Brown. She was a graduate of Winthrop University and of South Carolina State College. Miss Joyce taught in the Orangeburg Public School System and at Felton Laboratory School, South Carolina State College, SC. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Orangeburg, SC, and numerous Bible Study Groups. Mrs. Fleniken was an active supporter of the S.C. Autism Society, the AARP and the NEA. Mrs. Fleniken was the widow of Lovick Fleniken and George McCall Rogers, Sr. Survivors include sons, George McCall "Mac" Rogers III and wife Melanie of Beaufort, SC, Terry Brown Rogers of Charleston, Frank Marshall Rogers, Sr., and wife Barbara of Covington, GA; daughter, Janet Rogers Collings of Potomac, Maryland; step-daughter, Lynn Fleniken Potocnik of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Carolyn Jeffcoat of Greenwood, Evon Binnicker of Orangeburg; five grandchildren, Marshall, Mark, and Sara Rogers, Meredith Graham, and Jennifer Rogers Osterhoudt as well as two step-grandchildren, Tracy and Ryan Potocnik. She has four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to: SC Autism Society, 652 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 and the First Baptist Church of Orangeburg, SC. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 at DUKES-HARLEY FUNERAL HOME. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.
