Joy Loris Mims
James Island - Joy Loris Mims (Miss Joy), 67, of James Island, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. A Charleston native, born March 17, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Jame Alexander Mims, Jr. and Loris Martschink Mims. Joy attended First Baptist High School and later Lander University. She retired from the Federal Service.
Joy lived to the truth of her name. Her smile and presence would light up every room she entered. She never met a stranger. She was a devoted wife and friend. She enjoyed all things Nora Roberts and challenging herself with the daily Wordle and Sudoku. She loved her book club with "The Girls" and cutting a rug on the dance floor. Her fondest memories involve traveling the Caribbean on cruise adventures with her husband. She fussed over her African Violets but admired her Amaryllis.
Joy was a true woman of God who thrived on her faith and commitment to serve the Lord. She was a devout member of the Folly Beach Baptist Church and worked part-time as the financial secretary for Fort Johnson Baptist Church.
Joy was predeceased by her parents, her brother James Alexander Mims III and her sister Gale Marie Mims. She is survived by her husband, Robert B. Bolus, two step-daughters, Veronica Bolus Bishop (Andrew W. Bishop) and Cameron Brigham Bolus (Grayson Meindl), two grandchildren, Sidi and Colt Bishop (Andrew and Veronica), a sister-in-law, Jennifer Mims and three nephews, James Alexander Mims IV, Blake Tucker Mims and Christian William Mims.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 18th, at the J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Chapel on 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC from 6-8pm, and funeral services will be held at Folly Beach Baptist Church on Thursday February 19th at 11am.
