Joy, there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you and the girls. February 28th was 1 year ago that you were so tragically taken away from this earth. I woke up on that day with you strongly on my mind. It was me and 5 other deputies that carried Joy for her last time here on earth to be in glory forever. Mrs. Mildred, Nate and Dewayne I will always keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that you all are doing well. Mrs Mildred I will be calling you soon.

to the family...my heart and prayers go out to you..joy and i were very close friends...we met in college (vsc) and we instantly hit it off. i have so many pictures of joy and myself with the girls of Ga Hall and as soon as i locate them i do plan to post them and i ask any of my vsc and Ga Hall friends to do the same..i am sure that the family would love to see our friend in her younger years living life carefree...she would run around always reciting "The Color Purple"...joy has not changed at all ...she looks just like she did in college..she still has that beautiful smile and winning personality. in the movie clip of her siting at the table talking to her friend rachele...the voice and the way that she said it brought back so many memories of her trying to keep me from going off on my little boyfriend at the time..."now rachele" she would say...well sister, you will never be forgotten and i will come back as often as i can to check to see who stopped by to visit you.....love ya

Joy, Miaciah and Jelani,

I wish you could read the wonderful words family, friends, co-workers, AKAs, old classmates and kind hearted people that you all don't even know wrote to you all and the family. Girl, there are entries from folks as far away as Germany and in places like Puerto Rico.

I would like to thank all of them for their kind words of comfort and prayers. I know Joy would be smiling from ear to ear. Please hold your fondest memory of them in your hearts.

Joy, Miaciah and Jelani, your in God's hands and our hearts forever. Life on Earth will never be the same without you three. Don't worry about Anthony, he will be supported by family but watch over us all.

We love and miss you all.
Rest in Peace,

Your Bro

When I first heard the news about Joy, Miaciah and Jelani, my heart was filled with pain and devastation. It has taken some time for me to put my thoughts into words because I’m still in shock. Joy was a dear friend of mine whom I had the privilege of knowing for 22 years. I met Joy at Clarkston High School in 1986 and we kept in contact through the years. Joy was very kind, strong, intelligent, outgoing, straight-forward, humorous, serious about her hair (smile) and beautiful both inside and out! Joy was an outstanding mother who adored her three beautiful children. She lived every moment of her life with great ambition, determination and above all, dedication to her family. She was a mover and a shaker who poured her heart into every goal that she set out to accomplish. Everything that Joy lived for exemplified excellence! Her enthusiasm, compassion, delivery on promises, and her relentless pursuit of her objectives made her a jewel and example in my life. Even when she was disappointed about a circumstance, she would pull strength from her heavenly Father and bounce right back. She was more than a conqueror and truly believed that “one monkey don’t stop the show.” It is with great pleasure that I stand proud to call her my friend and prayer partner. I’m truly going to miss talking and laughing with her, the advice, and words of encouragement. In addition, Miaciah and Jelani were an extension of Joy’s beauty and I am going to miss their beautiful smile and loving spirit. Rest in peace my three angels: Jelani, Miaciah and my “big sister friend & superstar”, Joy!

Further, Ms. Joan, Dwanye, Nate, my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to you and your extended family. May the Holy Spirit of God continue to comfort you during this very difficult time. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, will keep your heart and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

In closing, I hope you will find comfort in the words written below:

“If You Could See Me Now”
My prayers have all be answered, I’ve finally arrived.
The healing that has been delayed, has not now been realized.
No one’s in a hurry, no more schedules to keep.
I’m enjoying Jesus, just sitting at his feet.

If you could see me now, I’m walking streets of gold.
If you could see me now, I’m standing tall and whole.
If you could see me now, you’d know I’ve seen Him face to face.
If you could only see me now!

Though I’ve had my sorrows, they never can compare,
to what Jesus has in store for me, no language can ever share.
You would not want me to leave this perfect place,
If you could see me now!

March 14, 2008

My heart goes out to you as the family. It is difficult for me as a friend so I can not begin to understand the pain you must feel. Darlene McCoy and I did a meeting for a mentoring program a couple of weeks before this happened. Joy gave a wonderful presentation to the girls about sex crimes and safety. We were all very blessed by it. After the meeting Joy and I talked and caught up a little. I was asking her questions about her own safety where her job was concerned. I specifically asked her was she ever scared when she was out there in the line of duty. Her response was NO! She just prays and goes on. She knows she is in God's hands. We laughed and talked and she told me some stories about what she had encountered out there recently and I admired her more and more as she talked. She had heart, courage, joy and she was dedicated. She was such a wonderful person, and her daughters were beautiful. I will continue to lift you all up in prayer always. God will get us all thru somehow and I give him the glory. To you Joy we thank you. We love you. Rest in peace... you and those beautiful angels of yours.

As in Gibran's "The Prophet," "Your children are not your children, they come through you, but not of you. You may strive to be like them, but not make them like you. You cannot give them your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts, and their souls live in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit - not even in your dreams...." (paraphrased). Who knows what a soul needs but God?

As your daughter, sister, aunt, children and grandchildren make their transition from mortality to immortality, there is a sunset on this side and a sunrise on the other, where pain, sickness, disappointment and even "apparent death" is no more. Remember, as some would say, "look, they are "dead," others will say, "look, they live."

Through the Power and Authority of the Holy Spirit, release the past; the future has not come; declare that I live in the now, moment by moment, not setting expectations nor plans of my own for my growth through this process. Repeat the ending lines of the LORD's Prayer to yourself: "Yea, though I walk through the shadows of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."

May God bless you all.

Eyes full of life, Contagious Smile and Loving Spirit, all represent Joy. No matter what part of the journey we met Joy, we truly met JOY!

Joy showed us how to live and how to love and it is sealed in her name:

J- Jesus first
O - Others second
Y - Yourself third

Joan and family, my prayers to Almighty God continues to be rendered on your behalf. God's word and promises are true and He is close to the brokenhearted, even when the brokenhearted can't feel Him.

Be encouraged knowing that Joy gave her life to the Lord, stayed close to the Lord and now resides with the Lord.

In all things, give thanks. I thank God for allowing Joy to come across my path on my life's journey. My life will forever be blessed!

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Joy on the set of a film we were working on together. She was so warm and humble, and very talented. I admired her strength and was drawn to her bubbly personality. I smile when I think of this dress of mine that she tried on during filming, and I told her she looked sooo much hotter in it than me and she just laughed, being modest. I'm so glad to have met Joy and her beautiful daughters. I will continue to lift up the Delestons in prayer and ask God for peace of mind for the family and friends.

For He has not turned away from
the suffering of the one in pain or trouble. He has not hidden His face
from him, But He has heard his cry
for help. (Psalm 22:24)NLV

To the Deleston & Gray Family. There are many of us who have not
experienced the type of pain that
both families are experiencing, so I
will not say that I understand. But
I will say that I serve a God who is
in heaven that cares and understands all. Your Father knows
what you need before you ask Him.
For those who are in the family, you may not get a chance to read this
message any time soon, and that's
understandable, but whenever the
opportunity presents itself, you will
find out that God heard your cry. And He is bringing healing unto you. I have read many of the messages posted. There are so many people praying and interceding on the behalf of the
family. Churches have come together to fast, pray, and interceding on the behalf of the
family. You are not alone. God will
take care of you. Our prayers are
also for those who do not know the
Lord. There will be times when you
don't have any direction, your ears
will hear a word behind you saying, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right or to the left.

God Bless You & Keep You, my
brothers and sisters in Christ,

To the Deleston, & Gray Family:
Our prayers are with you. We are
praying for God's healing and His
presence to be with every person
that is apart of both families, whether by blood relation, or acquaintances. We may not understand, but we serve a God that
is real. We know that He is going to
bring a healing, and power to change hearts that are bruised.

The word of God says, but God will
free my soul from the power of the grave. For He will take me to Himself. (Psalm 49:15)

Deleston, no one knows what you really meant to me. Your spirit was so strong and sweet and silly and those are the things that drew me toward you. I will never forget you because there is not a day that will go by that I will not think of you and all there is to remember. You and those girls are always on my mind and I want it to stay that way. Love you always.

My sympathy to the Deleston Family. I did not know the family personally, however seeing the story on the news here in Atlanta has been very heart breaking. No words can provide comfort for the loss you are feeling, but just know as time goes on..it will began to get a little easier. The ladies are in a better place. God bless Anthony Terrell, Jr. as well..as he deals with this situation.

As a co-worker of Deputy Deleston's she would always greet me with a sweet smile or kind words and that is something I will truly miss. My prayers are with you and your family during this time of healing.

To The Deleston Family,

Words can never express what you are going through right now. Remember to lean on God for all understanding and allow him to be a comforter in your time of need. You may not know all of the lives that your daughter and granddaughters have touched just know that they have touched a lot of lives and will be truly missed.
