Joseph Stevenson Obituary

Joseph Stuckey Stevenson GOOSE CREEK - Joseph Stuckey Stevenson, 79, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, husband of Delores Dantzler Stevenson, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 8, 2025. His Celebration of Life will be held Monday, July 14, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel at 1pm, with visitation at noon, Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel. Joseph was born May 18, 1946 in Bishopville, South Carolina, to the late David Lee Stevenson and the late Ruth Martin Stuckey Stevenson. He completed high school in just three years, graduating from Bishopville High School in 1963. He went on to attend The Citadel, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1967. Always committed to learning and leadership, he later earned a Master's Degree in Business from Webster University in the early 1990s. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and decorated hero of the Vietnam War. He served his country with honor and distinction, rising to the rank of Colonel before retiring from the Reserves in 1997. As a Ranger, Paratrooper, and Special Forces officer, he embodied courage, discipline, and leadership throughout his military career. In recognition of his bravery and sacrifice during his service in Vietnam, he was honored with several awards, among them the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Following his military career, he continued to serve through education as an instructor in the Computer Science Department at the College of Charleston. After fully retiring, his greatest joy came from his role as "Papa" to his grandson, Elijah, who was his best buddy from the moment he was born. He had a deep love of history, especially the American Revolutionary War, and found joy in exploring historical sites across South Carolina. In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by daughter, Tiffany S. Crawford (James); grandson, Elijah Crawford; brother, David Lee Stevenson, Jr.; sister, Ruth Bowman (Charles "CW"); several cherished nieces and nephews and many loved extended family members. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 2090 Executive Hall Rd., Ste 130, Charleston, SC 29407. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Joe's passing. We have been friends from the third grade thru high school and The Citadel classmates '67. We both served in the military and retired. We met up regularly for breakfast or lunch until his car "broke down". He helped shape my future. Many many stories to tell but will have to wait. For his birth family and Dee and family: prayers are up for all during this sad time. I am confident you will meet again in a far better place.
