Joseph Henry Smith IV EMERALD ISLE, NC - Joseph Henry Smith IV, Jack, formerly of Petersburg, Virginia, Mount Pleasant, SC, and recently, Emerald Isle, NC, passed away suddenly at his home on May 6, 2022. Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Fulghum Smith. Jack is survived by his son, Joseph Henry Smith V of Asheville, NC; fiance;, Susan Elizabeth Scott; sister, Anne Katherine Smith; cousins, William Hale Nunnally, Thomas Fulghum Nunnally, William Beach Smith; and his former wife, Karen Whelan Smith. Jack attended Admiral Farragut Academy Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Florida, and graduated from Bollingbrook School in Petersburg and attended Richard Bland College. Jack started his banking career at First Federal Savings Bank of Virginia and was Vice President at CPM Federal Credit Union. Jack was devoted to his family, loved civil war history, music, cars, boating and the sea, dogs, technology, woodworking, tennis, golf, and most of all, laughter and fun. A Memorial Service will be held at J.T. Morriss and Son's Adams Street Chapel and burial at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia, on June 11, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
