Ernest served in Germany under the 3rd Army of General George S. Patton Jr., having fought in Kassel, Germany. And Peter served in the Navy in the Philippines. His brother Alex also served in the Army after World War II. Joe attended St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick and then joined the Army in the Korean War-era. He was a member of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post 25 of Milltown. He had worked for several local firms including Midland Ross Corporation in Highland Park and Sherwin Williams in Piscataway.
His father died in 1956 and his mother in 1977. He was also predeceased by nine brothers and sisters, Michael J. and George (who were born in Brooklyn), Mary C. Snedeker and John (who were born in Bayonne), Charles W. "Willie'' (born in New York City), and Ernest, Victoria Buck Pernigotti, Peter and Alex (all born at home on Newark Avenue). Surviving is the second-youngest sibling, Helen E. Warness of Newport News, Virginia (who was born in New Brunswick and was the only child not born by a midwife), and a sister-in-law, Rose J. Paley (Peter's wife) of Piscataway.
Private cremation was under the direction of Selover Funeral Home in North Brunswick. Burial of the cremains will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
