Joseph Norman Newton MT. PLEASANT - Joseph Norman Newton, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Margaret Marlene Newton, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021. The Funeral Service will be Friday, May 21, 2021, in First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, 681 McCants Drive, at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 20, 2021, between the hours of 6 and 8 PM at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Norman was born July 21, 1934, in Denmark, South Carolina, a son of the late John Heyward Newton and Roberta Staley Newton. He was a US Navy Veteran serving as a radio operator for two years. Norman was a longtime faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. He retired from The Post and Courier after many years of loyal employment. Norman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, "Papa" and friend. Surviving are four sons, Joseph "Joey" Newton, Jr. (Betty), John "Johnny" Newton (Alice), Troy Newton (Stacey) and Loren Newton (Beth) all of Mt Pleasant, SC; 9 grandchildren, Sarah, Danica, John, Olivia, Isabelle, Carrie Lynn, Emma, Maggie and Kassie; two sisters, Thelma Newton McCarthy and Rachel Newton Broome; and one brother, Robert Matthew Newton (Gail). In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lorenne Newton Jefferson and brother, James Morris Newton.
